Though, as with most FWD cars, it shares its oil with the differential. Occasionally you can get a slow leak from the diff around the driveshaft seals, and if not spotted, this can lead to gearbox oil starvation and eventual gearbox failure.
It's good practice to check the gearbox oil level annually, and personally I'd recommend changing it occasionally, at about the same sort of mileage/interval as the cambelt.
