Is there a physical check I can do to see if my 'new' GP is a 1.2 or a 1.4? Some documentation I have states that it is a 1.2, and other say its a 1.4.

Ive obviously confused GP with being short for Grande Punto....

You could just go to any car insurance website online and get a quote - when you enter your registration number plate this should return what VOSA have on record for it which will include the CC of your engine.

on the grande punto, they released different trim levels, some are active and dyncamic, some are eleganza which has leathers and that, some are sporting which has something extra, and some are gp (like mine ) which has sporty sort of seats, chrome gauges leather gear knob fog lights.
if you open your drivers door, it will say on a metal strip on a part of the car i dont know how to describe ( the bit that is part of the car, but cant see or get to when door is shut, as the door is there)
on the metal strip it will say fiat grande punto 1.... gp/eleganza/active/dynamic etc

Ring Fiat UK customer services, tell them the issue and quote your VIN number, its under the little plastic hatch on the floor in the RH footwell and visable on the dashboard on the RH when looking through the screen. They will tell you in seconds EXACTLY what model you have.

They listed the car as a 1.4, all their documentation stated a 1.4, I've just checked inside the car and its a 1.2. I've been missold!

If it is really new then you can take the car back and formally reject it. If you are otherwise happy with the car and its quick enough for you then it might be best to come to some sort of agreement with the trader over a cash settlement.

It was from a used car wing of an Evans Halshaw garage. All their documentation that they have given me clearly states that it is a 1.4

Im taking the car back up to the garage tomorrow to see what I can do, Im happy enough with the car, just see if I can get a refund of the difference.

I've known Fiat to put the wrong sticker on the door pillar. ;)

Easy check is to look at the engine (or take a pic and post on here). The 1.4 8v has a valve timing variator solenoid on the cam cover (between the oil cap and breather hose). The 1.2 doesn't have one.

Ill take a picture in the morning, but all the insurance documentation points towards a 1.2.
