Hi guys, does anyone know what air pressure the turbo runs at? Mine seems to be down on power and have measured the pressure at 6psi, is this right?

According to the boost guage, it should be just short of 1 bar say 13 psi. There is a small bore rubber pipe about 5 mm ID which runs from the injector pump to a solonoid thingy just at the bottom front of the battery( to my shame I don't know what it does!!).
This pipe regularly splits at each end & results in diminished turbo boost - check this & shorten/replace & you might be right again

Thanks for the info. I was under the impression the boost should be about 1bar. I'm afraid the guage doesn't work at all and it was at the injector pump where i was taking the reading from. Have checked all the pipes etc and found nothing amiss so can i assume the turbo is shot? I have checked the actuator and taken a reading from there as well.

Turbo boost at maximum is 1 bar 13-14psi. The pipe described above is to the boost pressure gauge (display on dashboard) usually when this pipe is broken / split you just get no boost pressure on the display but the turbo works fine. It is prone to regularly splitting.

Boost pressure can be lost in any of the joints or a leaky hose, I have also had a leaky intercooler (located in the lower front left wing) this gave me about 50% boost pressure loss. They are expensive and like rocking horse poo from a factor or Fiat, got mine from a breaker on Ebay. Its all working fine now.

If you do have a leak you should hear quite a hiss at high boost and the car will feel like its struggling. Boost pressure is difficult to test stationary you will need a rolling road or to drive it.

Thanks, The pipe you mentioned is in good order so i assume the problem with the guage/pressure lies elsewhere. I will try and rig up a seperate guage and drive the car and monitor the pressure. As for the leaks somewhere, I cannot hear and air escaping, but I have noticed that there is oil seaping out of the intercooler so for one thing the engine is breathing heavy and there must be a way for the air to get out also!!

The leak on my intercooler was that bad you could hear it hissing however when I got to taking it out it had been leaking oil for so long that the accumulated road dirt had completly blocked the airways. Changing it for one of a scrapped car cured the problem.

Should point out that this was on a car I bought, I did not let it get to that state, the owner did not replace it as the price from Fiat was to great.

Managed to rig up a guage and drove the car. Max boost pressure is 13psi so it seems all is ok in that area so I checked the njection timing and adjusted it from 0.8mm to 1.0mm as per manual (lindsey porter) and boy does it feel sooo much better:) . Thanks for all your help was now wondering if I could tune it for a bit more poke!! Does anyone know the best method? HAve read about adjusting wastegate or putting a bleed valve in, has anyone got any suggestions?

get a boost controler can run turbo on boost gauge in car right to the end will be safe to run up 16 psi on turbo any more will wear bearings out quick have done to mine runs alot faster lots more pull through gears

Thanks. So where did you get the boost controller and how much was it? did you adjust the injection pump or just run it on the standard settings?

got off ebay 23 pounds the red light in the car comes on when it runs right to end of boost gauge fuel left as standard most tipos or tempras have no wastgate ajustment on the turbo but u can turn up pump a bit as well if need to
