Hello!

Do you know if the cable used for connecting the brake pad sensor does exist as a replacement? I mean the cable installed in the car of course, not the one on the pad.

Today I noticed that it has been cut... Don't know why, really, but since I am going to install new pads with the sensor (the one that should turn on a light on the dashboard when there is excessive wear) I would like to replace that cable.

I looked at ePER but I wasn't able to find that cable:confused:

Hi Daniele,
That's a common fault, it's not usually cut, they just snap from the hostile environment. Don't think the cable is available as a spare as it does not seem to have a connector at the other end, unless you have found one !. I usually make up a connector from other parts and then cover it in heat shrink sleeving.
 
These brake sensor cables are a waste of time. Most cars change to non sensor pads and with regular checks are just as good and pads are cheaper too. Ditch them.

No I don't know if there is a connector at the other end of the cable, well I really haven't managed to see where that cable actually comes from, I was thinking about supplying the replacement (if available) to a car electrician for doing the job :)
However your idea is fine, I could also try to solder the cables together and use the heat-shrink sleeve, in that way surely it won't snap ;)

The electrician could do it for you, but either way replace the cable further back from where it has broken, inside the engine bay is better. Once the road corrosion gets into the cable end it can travel a long way inside the insulation, 10 to 20cm would not be unusual for this. I've had to cut long lengths off to get back to good wire and then splice in a new bit. Solder and heat shrink is better, but time consuming, crimp type joints don't seal properly so the corrosion gets back in.
