Buy or not?

Hello everyone! My name is Larry from Greece and I am looking to buy from a family friend their one owner 1991 Fiat Tempra 1.6 with 98,960 original kilometers. Its in mint condition and always serviced with new original Fiat parts. Should I buy it? Is it reliable? Hows the handling? I like it because its a classic and its in mint condition.

Re: Buy or not?

Hi @Larry1980,

the cars are well designed,
and corrosion should NOT be an issue in a hot climate.

the 1 thing MAY be the electronics on the 1.6 engine..,

have a SEARCH of the forum for information on the 1.6 engine ,
in both the Tipo , and Tempra sections,

Charlie

Re: Buy or not?

Yes of course you should buy it!

The Tipo was a great car, and the Tempra is effectively a booted Tipo. Just bought a Tempra SW and it drives brilliantly & handles much better than an old estate has any right to! Don't forget the Tipo chassis was used for the Tempra, Alfa 155, and Lancia Dedra, as well as the Coupé Fiat - not a bad selection of drivers cars in there.

Re: Buy or not?

Hello everyone!!! Well I bought the tempra. Its like new for 25 years old. Nice acceleration, nice handling, when its real cold and i first start it up i hear the timing belt for about 3 seconds. Probably gonna replace it and do a service. Other than that very satisfied. Just having trouble parking it in the city due to its size. When I steer to park it makes some grinding noise. Thats about it.

You shouldn't hear the timing belt at all.
If you really do, there's something very wrong, I wouldn't start or drive the car, only after a good investigation about the noise you're hearing...
