Hi everyone!

I'm new on this forum, so first a short introduction. My name is Torino, 26, I live in Rotterdam (Netherlands) and after a couple of older and classic (mostly Italian) cars I now drive my first brand new car: a Panda 1.2 Dynamic (2004).

Problem: I like my new car, but taking into consideration that one of my hobbies is the working on, and servicing of cars, it's also quit boring. Nothing breakes down (yet), and the servicing is done by the Fiat dealer (because of the garantee)

The solution: buying an other car for practising my hobby! I was thinking of a beautiful Fiat Tempra SX (1991-1993), I always adored it and my father has had one.

Most of them have the 1.6 engine and I've read a lot about the realiability and problems of the 1.6. But now I've spotted a Tempra that I like a lot: a beautiful, dealer serviced Tempra 2.0 SX with only 110.000. It's actually sold by a Fiat dealer and is in beautiful (original) shape.

Finally, here comes my question: is this 2.0 a fine engine? Or has it a lot of problems and expensive parts? What's the fuel consumption in practice? In holland, having a 2.0 is more expensive in tax, insurance and of course fuel, but that's allright with me as long as I'm sure this engine isn't an engine with a lot of trouble....

Has anyone experience with this enige? Thanks very much for the replies.
 
I don't know what you have heard, but I was under the impression that the Fiat FIRE 1.6 engine was pretty bullet-proof, especially the later, injected engines.

Maybe I'm wrong....

Yes, that's right, the 1.6 is pretty bulletproof. But I want to know if the 2.0 is as well....

Well, I'm from Brazil, and here, we just have Tempra's 2.0 (8V or 16V)...
About the 8V (110cv), it's a good engine, low cost repair... all single injection...
About the 16V (132cv), excelente engine (on high rpm), but need's a dedicated owner: this engine need's a lot of car - oil replacement, prevent repair... medium cost repair, can be spi or mpi... Bosch or Magnetti Marelli...

The 8V takes 9-11 km per liter (non turbo) and the 16V takes 7,5-10 km per liter on gasoline... (city-road)

the sohc 1.6 engine is a lampredi design and is bullit proof.they will do starship miles if looked after.
the 2.0 twin-cam is also a lampredi design and is just as strong.8v is the strongest of all.bottom end in particular is brilliant.16 v can have bottom end problems.only use good quality oils in these engines and keep oil up at the top level.besides good coolant[changed every 2 yrs or 20000 miles],nothing to worry about.enjoy the car.dont pay very much for it.over here,it would cost about £200-£300.

I don't think the 1.6 is a FIRE engine. The biggest FIRE is about 1380cc or something like that. The FIRE was available as 748cc, 999cc, 1108cc and 1242cc. The 1380cc is relatively new.

The 1.6 in the Tempra I assume is the same as the Tipo engine, which itself is an update on the 1.1, 1.3, 1.4, 1.5 sohc engine as fitted to Unos, 127s, 128s, Mirafioris, X1/9s, Tipos, Tempras and even the Lancia Delta. Good engines, but an old design now.

The 2.0 litre in the Tempra you're talking about I suspect is the same as the Tipo 2.0 16v. I've heard it is the same basic engine as the Lancia Delta Integrale but without the turbo charger! But I'm not sure, so please feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.

Either way, a 2.0 Tempra sounds like quite a street sleeper (y)

Tempra 2 litre engine is a 1995cc 8 valve with weber-marelli multi-point injection and funky contra-rotating balancer shafts. Produces about 115bhp, bags of torque and silky-smooth to boot.

It's definitley a street sleeper. Mine's a Weekend & is probably the most under-rated car I've ever owned. Its got loads of character & is very well equipped with: ABS, all-round disks, front fogs, electric front windows & sunroof, climate control, electricaly adjustable heated mirrors and the weirdest looking/feeling seat fabric ever. Its not suede, nor nubuck, and definitely not alcantara it's very strange - especially the way it almost feels damp even when its not. :yum:

The engine's really strong (my mate has one in his kit car tuned for 170bhp) but is prone to oil leaks - particularly from the plugs that go in the balancer-shaft cavities and from the oil filter mounting bracket, which stupidly doubles-up as a main engine mount. Cam-belts should be done every 30k, not as fiat say which is every 60K. General service intervals are 9k & are dead easy thanks to the cavernous engine bay

Economy-wise, I get about 30 to the gallon, although if I'm nasty that drops to about 27.

The digi-dash has really grown on me, even though it does look like it was hewn from re-cycled nissan sunny plastic waste. The best bit is being able to "beat" the rev counter to the red-line. :rolleyes:

It will never, ever, rust as fiat didn't know what they were doing when they galvanised them. I reckon there's about 80kg of zink on the thing! The only corrosion I've ever seen on mine is at the bottom of the rear door quater-lights, but that's just a bubble at present.

Highly recomended to anyone who something totally different. (y)

If want good motor and fast car. Tempra 2.0 16V or Tipo 2.0 16V are great and mean machines.
My black rocket is Tipo 145 hps - 107kw, 0-100km 8.6 sec. VW GTI killer !!

But these babyes needs a good care :p
But is worth any penny, driving these cars is fantastic fealing!

I am in LOVE ;)
