When I lock it from the right side the button goes down but it instantly comes up. And when I try to press the button on the drivers side it wont budge. What could be the problem? Any help would be appreciated.
My car is a LHD 1991 Tempra.
Thanks in advance.

I have an LHD Tempra too and I experience a similar problem. Have you tried checking all of the lock pins on the car are up before you try and lock it? My Tempra can be quite fussy about that!

All the pins are up. The one on the drivers side occasionally goes down (once in a week). When I try to lock it from the passenger side three pins go down and the one on my side stays up and the car unlocks within a second.
I hope you understand what i`ve just explained.
Could anyone just direct me to some site with some pics how to fix this or something...

Open the door you suspect to be the problem and take off the door card.

Underneath you will find the central locking motor. Disconnect it then try locking your doors using a lock that is still connected.

Do this with all the doors until you find out which central locking motor is the problem.

One of your Central Locking Motors needs replacing. BUT you could always try swapping the Central Locking Relay first to see if this resolves the issues without all the dismantling.

This may sound stupid, but I had a similar problem and I solved it by opening every door AND the boot. Then I shut them all, starting with the passenger side front door, then the passenger side rear door, then the boot, then the driver's side rear door, then finally the driver's door. I then locked the car.

I had to repeat the exercise again, but then all the locks stayed down! I have no idea why it did it.

If the lock system is ok this is usually one of the front doors not being closed properly. The rear doors or the boot do not have the lock sensors to tell the lock system to open up again like that. There is no difference in LHS or RHS drive for the lock system.

Lock pins are directly connected to the lock motors, if the pin does not go up / down that door has not locked. For the front doors the lock pins will operated if you lock from the key.
Mine had a busted drivers door motor but it still locked from the key and the rest of the system (all doors) worked, but if I locked from the passengers side it immediately popped back up. Changing the lock fixed it.

I have some of the workshop manuals and pages here http://www.brickfieldspark.org/temp/fiatmanuals/temprainfo.htm (no search facility), there are the Haynes and Porter manuals there too, but they are big downloads. If you don't find the lock info I'll try and get it from the workshop manuals.

The lock can be changed with one from the appropriate door (locks are handed side to side and slightly different front to back) from a Tempra or Tipo but it is fiddly, takes about 1-2 hours to do it yourself. Locks from Fiat are expensive so the local motor breakers is the best source, they do come up on ebay occasionally.
