i'm currently thinking of upgrading from my 1985 85s ragata to a 1.6 tempra. any current tempra owners had a regata before? how much difference is there in leg room(front and back)? and how about acceleration and fuel consumption? any replies would be appreciated.

Cant speak as a former owner of a Regata, but as my perents had a 91 Tempra 1.6SX I had plenty of use of that myself. for MPG I think it avaraged about 35mpg. Acelleration wise, well 0 - 60 in 12 secs was the offical timing, Not exactly the quickest but being a heavy car it was quick enough, and very very stable at speed. Found the car to be spaceious in the front and rear, wearnt struggling for leg room and also although the boot looks small, it can swallow a whale, its huge.

Hope thats of some help to you

My family had a 1989? regatta Antarres 75 1.3. Lovely roomy car. We also had a tempra at a later date. We found the tempra's boot smaller, the visibility out of the rear is much less than the Regatta, however the tempra is a much more solid vehicle. the 1.6 engine will serve you well and the car handles cleanly.

What the hell was that! common cry of other road users as the doblo over takes up a hill fully laiden at 90

one of the best things i liked about the regata was its large boot. is the tempra boot much smaller? also, if i'm going to buy a 1.6 tempra, how do i know whether it is the 65HP injection, the 84HP Sohc or the 90HP Sohc multipoint? i got these types from the tempra guide on the forum. is there an easy way to know the difference?

simple way to tell between the carb based model and an injection one is by its trim level naming. Carb based ones like what we had here was just named 1.6SX while the injection one had 1.6i.e.SX.
As for the bhp, 65hp sounds much to me like the 1.9D none turbo diesel engine. the 1.6ie was 76bhp. although I do see the 90bhp one listed, so at a guess that must be an engine from 94 - 96 age range
If you have the 1.4ie in your market then thats 71bhp

Here is a link to UK info of the tempra, hope its some help to you
