Hi, I need a drawing of the brakeing system for mt Tempra 1.9sx. Every time I press the pedal fluid is shooting out form behind the o/s rear wheel and it seems to go behind the fuel tank!!!

Need to see what is under there before I attempt to pull it all apart, any help would be fantastic.

Both the Haynes and Porter manuals for the Tipo / Tempra can be found on-line as pdf files, although they are quite large downloads (about 50Mb).

There is a load sharing valve under the back (over the top of the rear axle) to the left of the tank looking at the back of the car. The brake piping into the valve and also from the rear wheels does suffer badly on some cars from rot / rust. I have had this happen twice. Check all the pipes while your at it.

I have found its easier to get a garage to do it, they usually replace with copper. It an awkward and messy job especially if the pipes / joints are badly corroded. I've just had our 1.9TDs done in exactly the same place, rear offside pipe from the load valve to the junction with the rubber pipe from the wheel. The fuel tank has to come out to get at this pipe.

I had a similar thing happen on a Tipo a few months ago. Not sure if you have the same problem. I braked and the car just carried on. It dumped a large amount of brake fluid on the road. Luckily I didn't hit anything. Turned out to be a leaky rear wheel cylinder.

I ended up replacing both rear wheel cylinders, one each side as both were leaking fluid. The shoes were contaminated as well so they got changed. What a pain in the a**e. Disc brakes are so much easier to work on. Did the job myself and it took all day, messing about with the springs etc and bleeding the system down after.

The brakes worked brilliantly after.
