Good time of day to all.
A few days ago i got an idea to change the cooling liquid on my tempra 1.6. After a quick search on the internet i learned how to do it. I got this car some months ago from my dad and i was terrified to find out that he was using REGULAR WATER as a cooling liquid. I guess that's the reason he has changed the cooling system pump two or three times. Well i went to a store and bought two containers of cooling liquid 4 liters each. As soon as i have removed the bottom radiator hose a huge amount of rust colored water came out. That was still nothing , when i dismounted the cooling liquid container from the car and cleaned it , some sort of liquid came out from it for about a minute and looked like "rust grease". I can't imagine what is going on in the engine or worse in the poor pump ! My dad used this car for 14 years and gosh... all the time it was water cooled. Now i must think of a way to clean the entire engine cooling system. Should i just wash it with a strong current of water ? Where to i need to attach the water hose to get the best cleaning ? I guess after perfoming this task i can fill the green coolant and it should be alright. (y)

just disconnect the hoses and thermostat and put a hosepipe in the radiator till it runs clear. if you suspect a blockage put it in the bottom. do the same with the engine block. if it is really bad you may need a new radiator. usually this will sort out the problems. i think there are cooling system cleaners which may be usefull to you. to be honest running on water isn't too much of a problem except in winter when freezing which causes serious damage. but coolant usually contains rust suppresents. just make sure you connect all the hoses up fully when done.
