Hi all,

Question..

I have a EVO from 2013 with the new LED lights on the back. Each light has 2 stripes of Led.

My left light, the LED part, doesn't shine so bright as it should be. I want to replace / fix it. I know how to disconnect the light but I can't figure out where the LED is connected to.

So I was wondering if someone can tell me what I have to buy/do to fix the light. I was thinking about buying a complete new light but not sure if thats okay. Then u still have the option to buy with lamp holder or without.

Anyone who can help? Thanks in advance!

Cheers

Hi

People seem to think that moisture gets in there and upsets the lighting output

There have been a fair few threads about it.. and a few people have attempted to remedy it

I THINK my 2012 twinair is OK.

I looked into this in some detail when my boy's 2012 Punto Easy 1.4 8 valve did exactly this a year ago or so - don't know if it's a coincidence but it was his N/S light too. It does indeed seem to be moisture related so I removed the light unit and used my wife's hair dryer to thoroughly dry it out by blowing hot air inside it. When I put it back on the car it worked fine for about a fortnight, if I remember, before going back to being very dim - so dim in fact that in daylight it looked as if it wasn't working at all but after dark I realized it was actually just very dimly visible.

It seems that the LED module can not be bought separately - anyway the plastic is all fused together so I don't know how you'd get inside it - So I contacted the lads at Shop4parts who were able to tell me that it's not unusual for the earlier LED units to do this. Later units have apparently been modified to address this moisture/condensation problem so we bought a new unit from them and it's completely solved the problem - not a cheap solution though! If you are thinking of looking for a unit off a scrapper I think the change went onto the production line sometime in 2013? but I'm not sure. Anyway I'd not take one off a scrap vehicle with a plate earlier than 2014 - Assuming that what I found out is correct? - which is why we went for a new unit. https://www.shop4parts.co.uk/?name=...&term=Fiat_Punto_(2012_to_)_1.4_8v_Rear_Lamps I think maybe the Pop models still had bulbs with the rest having LEDs? hence the two different types? Hope that helps - Regards Jock

PS - If you are going to buy from S4p, who I can recommend sell quality stuff, remember you need to spend over £25 to get free shipping (not a problem with this purchase) and if you make even a small donation to the forum funds you can access the forum discount code for S4p, which is well worth it if you are intending to make more than just a single purchase from them.

This actually sound really logic. I did have problems with moisture in the lamp but never thought of the effect.

I did this in the beginning when the LED was still fine but the moisture was in. Disconnected the complete unit and lamp holder and then the hair dryer.. it took away most of it but there was always a bit left.

I bought a complete new unit today, arriving on Monday. I though it wasn't too expensive, got he one without lamp holder because I'm sure that part is completely fine and it is new 65 euros. Ok definitely not as cheap as changing a standard bulb but I was scared that it would be in the wiring.

Thanks both for the answers!!
