Hi looking for some help we changed a fiat 500 2013 1.2 engine we put in a fiat 2015 punto 1.2 engine same engine codes we used fiat 500 2013 starter motor the cars is starting but the starter keeps going for a few seconds will the starter be different do i need a punto 2015 starter

What do you met by going?
It stops working?
If so check that power is getting to the starter when you turn the key if so most likely cause is a bad starter

Sorry it does start but the starter seems to go for a few seconds more thangs for your reply.

It receives power .. longer then required..

yes

Take starter out of its socket

See if it actually spins for longer..

My suspicion is that its staying engaged and spinning with the flywheel

Old starters were permanemtly engaged on the engines ring.gear on the outside of the flywheel (pre.engaged)

Modern ones the driving gear is 'tucked.in' and as the motor spins it ..it also throws it out to line up with the flywheels ring gear

IF it sticks out there.. you will still hear the starter spinning..

As it is being driven by the engines power.. not battery power

Question:
Did you swap flywheels..? there is a chance the profiles are different


But.. spin the starter on its own.. see if it is sticky.. it does happen
