My batteries putting out 12.6 volts, engine off. Engine running the alternator is putting out 16.4 volts at the battery. Does the ecu regulate the voltage or is there a regulator on the alternator thanx

Traditionally in the Alternators brush pack.. but ECU might have some control


Look at a parts diagram

16.4v is not that high in a charge state,
Is that with the battery connected?
If that 16v is with the battery disconnected then have a measure with the battery back on.


I am not saying there is not a problem just sayin that I have seen bare alternators putting out that sort of volts before they are loaded.



If there is a fault then it will be the alternator most likely as they normally contain all the regulation stuff builtin.
