I got a 2008 Fiat Ducato 3.0 160hp mwb van. Recently failed on bushes. So paid a garage to fit new lower arms and the ball joints were replaced too.
All was well, passed its mot. Drove it maybe 25 miles yesterday with no issues.
Today took it down the M6, drove about most of the day. Went to the local shop at the end of the day and i noticed a nasty clunk on stationary turning. Not realising the severity of the issue, got my shopping and drove home, thinking ill ask the garage tomorrow.
But upon driving over a speed hump i heard a clunk and something fly off the van.
I found the passenger side lower ball joint nut laying in the road, the nut has the thread stripped half way. The thread of the ball joint covered in blue plastic.
I put a 24mm spanner on the drivers side to find that loose too, i could turn it by half a turn.
Questions are:
What is the torque setting for those nuts on the ball joints meant to be?
Why would brand ball joints fitted into new lower arms come loose? Mechanic fault? Manufacture issue?evil pixies at night?
Now this has happened will the fact of them, coming or being loose ruin either the ball joints and mybe the lower arm sockets??
