Hi Purchased a 2004 Doblo 1.9 JTD knowing charging light was on and serpentine idler tensioner noisy on tick over.

So changed alternator which was a Denso Fiat 46782213 for a new Alternator Fohrenbuhl FA5040 and fitted new tensioner pulley.

Charging light still on & no volt meter evidence of charging at battery when engine runs

Tried the following but still no joy :

Fitted new known good battery
Cleaned up battery terminals and battery earth strap to bellhousing
Inspected fuses F37 & F53 which are on the Body Control unit that fiat diagnostics says to check
Checked I have 12 volt feed to the D+ terminal with ignition on and wire disconnected
Checked for voltage direct from alternator body with engine running, no evidence of charging
Run a positive direct from alternator to battery positive , still no charging

Run a separate 12 v supply to D+ ( with original wire disconnected ) : this managed to get charging light to go out on dash but still no volts evidence of charging at battery ? This puzzled me greatly ?

I assume this alternator set up is a basic system and not a smart alternator as there is only a B+ & D+ connection and nothing fancy on battery

So any thoughts to try next , as I am at a loss
