Hi All,

I am having a starting problem with my 2011 Fiat 500 TwinAir Pop. The ignition turns on no problem with no warnings. I turn the key, there is a click from a relay but the engine does not turn and there is no sound from the starter motor.

Does anyone know if there are wiring diagrams in the Haynes manual for this model of Fiat 500 or if there are electrical diagrams available anywhere else? I would like to find out if power is getting to the starter or not.

Many thanks for any help.

Regards,

Matt.

Hi.

Sounds like low power passing to the starter

either.. a poor battery..

Or poor earth connection

Use a jumper cable shadowing the original

Hi,

Many thanks for the replies. I should've mentioned in my original post that the battery had finally died after 9 years of use - not bad! I have changed the battery and that's when the starting problems occurred that I described in my post. I have since checked the earths and all appears ok but the problem continues.

I have downloaded the files that you recommended - s130 - but I can't seem to extract them. I keep getting archive errors.

Hi Matt.

How much did you need to disturb to swap the battery?

I can imagine its pretty tightly packed in a 500..

Ok the clicking is almost certainly the solenoid on the stsrter motor..
This is VERY common with a flat battery ( a sign of a poor power supply..)

So.. I would go back through the connections local to the battery..

Hopefully something nice and simple

Have you ruled out the new battery having a problem..?

Hi,

I didn't have to disturb too much when changing the battery - just the cabling to it. The clicking noise sounds like a relay inside the car instead of the solenoid on the starter. From experience, with low volts getting to the starter, there is a repetitive click. This noise I get only clicks once when I turn the key to the start position.

I've measured the new battery voltage and it shows a full charge - just over 12v. I have also tried jumping it but still get the same problem. If nothing else comes to light, I'll be jacking the car up next week (when I'm off work) and try to get to the starter.

You haver to download all the .rar files to the same directory. Then use 7Zip (or similar that can handle .rar files) and then open/un-rar/extract the fist .rar file. Your program will then do all the other files automatically.

Hi, all,

Many thanks for all the replies and help. I eventually got under the car and traced the problem to the starter motor. There was 12v from the battery to the solenoid and also the 12v 'signal' getting to the starter to energise the solenoid but not response from the starter: Starter Motor no good.

Changing the starter motor was another story when the most awkward ribe head bolt to get to rounded off! Eventually got it changed and back on the road.

Regards,

Matt.
