Anyone wired electrics for a towbar? Im looking to know the best/easiest way to hook up the bypass relay to the reverse and fog lights? Also if I need to buy extra wire to link up the reverse, fog lights and near side indicator, how thick should it be? I have extra wire left over from the power cable I've run from the battery but I'm worried its too thick to be used for anything else. Its for my 09 mk3 punto.

Seeing as it’s been a couple of months, I’d imagine you’ve sorted this now but for anyone else with the same question, I’ve wired up a bypass relay in the past so hope I can shed some light.

Basically, you need a 12v feed for the unit, the battery is probably the best option but that’s your choice. You then have ports labelled from 1 to 7 on the relay which will come with a diagram showing what wires from your towbar wiring needs to be connected to the relay.

On the other side of the relay you’ll have a whole bunch of wires coming from it, on the diagram it will say what colour wire from the relay needs to be connected to your cluster ie: Red - O/S Indicator. Basically, get yourself a multimeter, put your O/S indicator on and probe each wire on your light cluster until you get 12v (obviously because it’s flashing the reading won’t be steady) then you just repeat that process for the remaining lights.

With regards to the N/S you just need to extend the wires over to your N/S cluster, or at least that’s what I done, I went into my local Halfords and picked up a 5m reel of wire, doesn’t need to be anything fancy.

Hope this helps if you’re still struggling.
