Hello to alle you Fiat Gurus, hope you can help. Thanks in advance.

My daughters Panda, which she loves, is going to MOT test.

Ever since she bought it, is has following lights on: Brake+ABS, indication EBD not functioning, and probably ABS out of service. Engine light on, Errorcode read says: no signal from Speed Sensor. Besides from that Speedoo not working. From previous owner all this happened at once. A friend who has a Delphi Code reader, was not able to contact ABS unit. Now I bought a used ABS block from GB, same vintage, car and motortype, but not exactly same BOSCH par number ( almost same though ) Can I just swap the unit with the one in car, and bleed and its good to go, or is there anything particular to do. Its a very nice and brave little car, and it would be awfull to loose it. I saw this post, and decided ABS block had to be problem.DUCATO MH EBD Failure on this forum. Can anyone help mee ? Gearbox ground strap is cleaned. Best regards Ole, Mathildes dad.

Before you fit it just plug it in and see if you friend's code reader will scan it. If not then the problem lies elsewhere, if it can't be scanned it's either faulty or a wiring problem.

Unfortunately the abs swap didnt change the problem. Everything is exactly the same. ABS light on, Engine Checklight is on - error - no signal from speed sensor. EBD error is indicated by brake warning light +ABS on.

Any trick to test the ABS sensors ? Do all 4 have to function to get a working speedometer ?

Hi.

Thats disappointing :(

Speed sensor.. almost certainly at one wheel

SEARCH it on the forum.. but you may need to use a device like MultiECUScan to read the errors..and attempt communication

Big Thanks for the help untill now.

PROGRESS. I discovered the old ABS unit had blown the small fuse in engine compartment. It was the first thing I checked when starting to troubleshoot, but after changing the ABS unit, i didnt recheck. Now Speedometer works, EDB failure is gon after a short testride, Steering works right, incl. City Mode. engine check light is still on - have to be reset, guess failure left is still the same - missing signal from speed sensor, just have to be deleted.

BUT: ABS light lights when ignition is switched on, goes out after a couple of seconds, but comes on again after another 5 seconds.

My question now is: Should the used ABS unit have been mated to the car, or is some error still present ?

Hope someone can help, last minute for MOT is nearing.

Best regards Mathildes Dad

There is almost certainly one wheel sensor not sending a signal. Generic code readers will not find this, as they will only interrogate powertrain functions. You need MultiECUscan and the correct adaptor lead for the ABS.

First task will be to do a physical check.
At each wheel, identify the sensor and see if there is any obvious physical damage to sensor or wiring. Follow the wiring to the connector. At the front this will need the wheelarch liners dropping. Sensor wiring is the most common issue, as road debris can damage it.
Check each connector is clean and secure. Including the big one at the ABS unit, and any earth cable at the ECU.
If nothing obvious is found, it'll need MES to identify which is not sending.

The 'new' unit may need matching to the car, which MES should be able to do for you.

Has a wheel bearing been changed recently? The bearings have a reluctor ring to create the ABS signal, but if fitted the wrong way around, the reluctor ring will not be next to the sensor. Rear bearings are complete hubs, but are available as ABS or non-ABS.

Thanks, I really appreciate your help.

Before detecting the recently blown fuse, I tested each sensor by seperating it from the chassic plug and ohming it out, they all ohmed at just around 1350 ohms.In that instance i had the front inner liners removed. I also tried rotating wheel and a small current occured. Now i retest the plugs and clean with brake cleaner internal, to remove any grease and dirt ( doesnt look dirty ) to see if any are bad connections. Is the MES only available by Fiat dealers ? Will removing ABS error with generic tester help ?

Does anyone know if unit actually has to be mated to car.

Soon desperate:(

I think i Solved IT :):):):):)

Thank you very much for all the advise it has been a great help, i would never have found the issue without your help.

One of the connectors at rear wheel had a bad connection. All lights were out when it was cleaned and reassembled again. What a releif.

Again thank you.

Best regards Mathilde Dad
