Hi friends. Yesterday I picked up on a comment from a user that made a mod to get rid of the Uno coil and module on the side of the distributor. I didn't mark the page, but he modified a 1600 VW Golf distributor and it worked. Others asked for more details but there wasn't a follow up.

My Uno had to be towed in yesterday after that module packed up! The cost of that module and coil is so expensive... I might have to scrap the car.

Can anyone suggest a modification to a 1993 Uno 1.1 to get rid of the module and coil to replace it with a regular coil?

I don't think my next post went through... Sorry....
My Uno on its last days. Sadly the replacement parts cost 1K and a good condition Uno can fetch 5 K. Mine is a little warned with dents and scratches and some rust.
My Uno had given me piles of joy over the past two years!

Uno do run with borrowed parts but I cant get replacement parts.

Just google convert Fiat Uno To Camper in minutes. I cant post links.

After my 5th post, I can do photos and links. I sat all night searching again for the post on the mod and finally found it!

I copy and paste in info... without names or site reference.

"Hi. I have a Fiat Uno 1996 model. I like this car, I have been running it for 4 years now, but I have a problem with the distributor."

There was a few other comments and suggestions until this guy's comment...

"I own an Uno 1100 model (1996). I had the same distributor problem until I changed the whole system by putting in a Mk2 16 valve Golf distributor with 7 pin module, plus Golf wiring and the bottle like coil. That's when my problem was been sorted. Since then it's been running like a dream."

For those reading this, other people had asked for diagrams and photos and more info, but he didn't reply back after that comment.

This had put me on some track. This morning I disassembled the Uno distributor and had a close look on the inside. I intend to follow through on some modification rather than spending on the Fiat modules.

At least there is somewhere, like this forum, where I can share my efforts... maybe a success or failure but a effort to resolve a seemingly common problem!

@ Dragon Man
I see you are around here! I downloaded your neat diagram on the ignition coil and system wiring. Also subbed to you on youtube.

Need to get a few posts in to be able to add links and photos. Anyway... Should I fail on a mod, I'll rather rewire the car fresh... (much needed) and do the ignition system accordingly.

Two years ago, I converted my Fiat Uno to a neat camper! It became an instant hit on youtube from mostly Brazil. Every year since... I did a annual tour and monthly a trip somewhere!

This year in March my Uno made an article in a local South African camping magazine!

All went so well! Toughness and durability was the message... till a few days ago! My first major breakdown and Uno had to be towed back home! What a sad day!

My heart was broken! I told my family... I think 1993 Uno has had it! What should be next? I have a few sponsors and my sponsors said... No way! Your Uno have the life! The little car is only 26 years old... For Africa that is still young and fresh!

The few cancer spots... rust... was neatly covered and some white paint with a brush... some black lines here and there... Uno looks good!

With borrowed parts, I can take the trip to Cape Town... and get the necessary stuff to keep my wheels alive!

Thanks to this forum reading.... I have came to some alternatives for the problem... and with a bit of luck... my Uno will live another 26 years! 5th post made!

Thanks guy's I can see my thread is getting the hits!

I have recently started the 3rd Uno blog! The first two failed as it wasn't very good. Every month I place a little newsletter and video.

For April, I'm a little ahead on the newsletters and content.

On my Uno blog is a little contact form, but underneath that follow all the newsletters.

Here is the link to issue no: 1.
https://unotournewsletter.blogspot.com/p/newsletter-issue-no-1.html

I still need a hosting site to upload the PDF's... but the Jpeg of each newsletter is quite readable.

I wish to thank you for following... and I will give feedback here to the resolve to my Uno problem!

One of my regular sponsors was kind enough to pick up the parts for me in Cape Town.

Using Dragon Man's information I will rewire the car... well... a local auto electrician sponsor to have the entire car rewired fresh.

All the obscure faults... and all the extra added on wiring since 1993... The tons of wires connected to the battery... all will be done new! The instrument cluster will be alive and working!

I'll do a video next month when all of this will be happening! A new live for my Awesome Uno Camper!

I'll attend to other things as described on this forum. I'll reference that to the threads here that you can appreciate the valuable information on this platform.

Uno Destributor module.

I'm a ham radio operator... carefully opening the module...

From my radio experience the following transistor needs to be on the heat-sink with reason, but on the module its not! The board between the transistor and heatsink.

You have a Base, Collector and Emmiter.

This puts my mind to work... Of the 5 points, one is earth and one is live. Sure a simplified mod may work? OR It should be possible to replace the transistor leaving the 8 pin IC that I think is not needed on the old tech non fuel injection model.

Just sharing my thoughts...

I cant post photos... but here is a video of what I want to accomplish.
