Well its official. I am stumped .

Hello everyone :)

My right side indicators have stopped working altogether (dash light as well).
Left side works fine and both work with hazards. Must be the indicator stalk. confirmed by a little different feel for the right switch. I got one from the wreckers. Changed it out fine. Test it and it works very briefly then nothing.

Damn :bang:.

Fiddling around with it I notice the indicator works when the high beam is engaged.

WTF .

Considering calling an auto electrician to come and have a look.
Before that I thought to ask you all for suggestions, comments etc.

Few things to consider that might or might not be connected.
1. Back left light had the earth problem. Right one shows no corrosion.
2. Its had a service just before this happened (got it done when I had the windscreen changed for MOT)
3. Little different feel the old indicator stalk had, now feels fine out of the car.

What have I missed? I am at a loss and open to any ideas :)

Stating the obvious Luke, dodgy old Fiat wiring somewhere in the system. Arming yourself with a volt meter & a lengthy process of elimination is the DIY way. Best of luck.

Hey thanks for the encouragement. I guessed the solution would be via elimination, just thought to ask some people with more experience and knowledge :D there is a little time pressure too with the Mot in a couple weeks, also I am in Finland, its minus here atm and I dont have a garage to do the work... opposite of Australia and bloody freezing! (y) will see if I canfind the problem during the week. Fingers crossed.

Pull the hazard switch and try to clean up the contacts - or source a replacement?

I know on VW / Audis of a certain era, the hazard switch causes no end of issues with indicators.

Agree with dodgy VW switch..had worse on a modern GM mpv. :(

If:
It all works from Hazard Switch
Works with High Beam on.

Then:
Basic wiring to light cluster is sound
Power appears patchy from switchgear.

So:
Unclamp the wheel rake adjuster.. with indicator ON.. move steering column through several arcs of movement.. does it make ANY difference?

I am unsure of the hazard switch Role.. it may be it doesnt drive the indicstors
.and is just powered via the RED Relay.

Aye Luke, at a guess I'd imagine your weather has an effect on the aging motors wiring & bits relating to what you're trying to remedy.
Yeah Jim with the snow and muke thrown up, minus 25 degrees at times its certainly hard conditions for cars...and me actually! I could only go out to check the car for a small time today begore going back inside for a nice cuppa. Hopefully later in the week it will drop some and I can use some of this advice.

Schumi, hazard switch seems operational, no funny feel when depressed. I will do as you suggest though and see if it makes a difference.

Hahaha. Charlie you lost me at wheel rake adjuster! Had to google that and now I feel a fool, its called some else in Australia. I can try this too.
I have the wiring diagrams and will try to post.
My cousin the electrician said to test the common earth that the hazard and, indicator and beams haveand then contuity test backwards around the switches. I agree the wiring is probably fine if the hazards work but never the less will check all of the earth points.
Also I found a post with similar theme of right indicator not working except with headlights and it seemed the bsi was to fault. Might take a peak at that too. Guess its better if I need an auto electrician that everything I can check, is checked and everything else is handy already to get too.

No difference with the steering wheel rake, Charlie.
All the earths seem fine. Will pull the hazard monday.
I trawled through the prev posts and found a few references to the right indicator only working with highbeams. The explaination seems to be the bsi. Im abit worried about pulling it out to check it.
Anyone had any experience or can show some pictures?
Thanks
Luke
