Hi all, not sure if this is in the correct sub forum but today I got around to changing the fuel filter on my 2012 Doblo 263 1.3mj diesel. I have had the van for just over a year, the van come with full service history as it was owned by a utility company before me, anyway thought it might be time to change the diesel fuel filter ( UFI type with a diesel pre heater attached to the filter housing) and bloody hell was it dirty. Very easy job to do just let the fuel pump refill the filter reservoir by leaving the key turned to MAR for a short while to let it refill. I have attached a couple of pictures to show the difference between the new and old filter so I hope unlike me you folks don't leave it till it looks like the one I exchanged today,

Cheers

We are increasingly seeing issues with fuels - and especially diesel - as the 'bio' content is increasing.

Diesel underground tanks need regular 'de-sludging' to remove microbial growth and contamination. This is really nasty and smelly stuff - if you have filled at a station where they don't carry out this work and they've run the tanks low, you could have pulled some sludge through into your tank.

Petrol isn't quite so bad - but with the proposal to E10 fuels, it will increasingly become something to worry about.

That's bad news for those of us with submerged filters in our fuel tanks where we have to take the pump out to access the -sometimes quite expensive - filter.

Hi, I thought the same, and to be honest I never thought it would of been that bad hence the post!

To be honest, that's not a bad one - some of the ones i take off are black as coal! Full history is no guarantee of it being changed, when i worked at a Ford dealer the guy in the bay next to me had a drawer full of Focus pollen & fuel filters because they were a pain to fit. I serviced a 1998 Audi a year or two ago with full dealer history, the petrol filter was dated 1998.....! Back to Fords, diesel filters are'nt changed until 3 years/32,000 miles but i had them blocked and causing problems before that. My default stance when presented with a diesel with running problems is a new filter regardless of history, cutting them open for inspection usually backs this theory up.
