C510 Gearbox Internals

Hi, I have a 02 Punto HGT Abarth. It eats gearboxs, 3rd gear in particular. Im looking to broaden the scope for replacement parts for the gearbox and I see that the C510 is in the later 1.4 Punto Tjet.

The internals would be transferable - shafts, gears etc.

The exact same gear ratios in the 1.4 Tjet are in the Grande Punto 1.2 and 1.4.

As far as i am aware the 1.2 and 1.4 Grande Punto have a different gearbox.

Can anyone tell me if the internals of the Grande Punto gearbox are transferable to the C510 housing. Either wholly or by stripping gears off shafts etc.

Re: C510 Gearbox Internals

simplest form no

The normal gearboxes are a c514 base and will not be compatable with a c510 in any way but an M62 vauxhall gearbox might have some interchangeable parts

Re: C510 Gearbox Internals

Was talking to a Fiat Dealership Service Manager a few years ago, he told me that Punto's don't give any gearbox problems, he had never had to rebuild one!

(and no, as an ex-Fiat Mechanic, I don't believe him either!)

Your car is now 16 years old and has ??? miles.
Could it be simply down to wear and tear?

I'm curious as to what is actually failing on your car's gearboxes.

AL.

I suspect synchro's initially .. (3rd is generally the most selected gear..)

but I'm sure @RaceAbarth will know for sure..

its 16 years old but was never driven on the road. it was one of 25 purchased tru fiat and built for circuit racing. fully polybushed, stand alone ecu, full race suspension. Its done vry little mileage, interestingly guys found that replacing syncros and gears with used ones lasted longer than new parts!

Engine and box standard from FIAT. No mods allowed originally. Different race series now where mods are allowed. Third gear was just a weak point with a lot of pressure going Tru it coupled with rushed gear changes

Re: C510 Gearbox Internals

I meant internal components were potentially manufactured in different factories.. to different specs.

In reply to used ones lasting longer than used..

USED.. maybe a better matched PAIR.. working as designed with correct tolerances.etc.

Still hard work for you though..

Run in parts normally last longer than new if they're for heavy use.
