Hi,
Welcome to Fiat Forum.

What model Fiat do you have? We have sub forums for the different models so fault specific questions are best asked on the forum for your model.
Steering light can be on for several reasons. A common one os a bad battery. Did you replace the "dead" battery or just get a jump start? If not replaced it might be the problem. Some models suffer from sensor or relay failure some from faulty wiring. Depending on the model you may need to get the warning light reset by a dealer or using Multiecuscan software (www.multiecuscan.net) aftar the fault is fixed.

Thanks Robert G8RP
The model in question is a 2003 September registered Fiat Punto active 8v 5door hatchback facelift model, 1.2 59 bhp, hope that’s enough info. It’s my daughters first car and it’s down to dad to sort it.
Thanks in advance everyone!

If you are near Cambridge I have Multiecuscan and can run diagnostics for you. If you intend doing your own maintenence I suggest you get your own copy and interface. The registration fee is only €50 and you need a USB ELM327 interface with Red and Green adaptor leads. These cost about £30 e.g.

It all runs on a laptop with Windows XP or later. An old machine is ideal.
You can do most things on an earlier Punto with the demo version of MES except the power steering. Note that basic self contaianed code scanners will not give you the information you need.
