I bought a new battery today and changed it because my old one was bad. Same make and everything. Now my speedometer only shows the speed when I brake or press on the window up buttons (pressing for both sides shows correct speed while pressing just one doesn’t show exactly the correct speed. If I drive 40 km/h it shows 20.).

I’ve changed my speed sensor to a brand new one because I had a similar problem a few months ago. It was fine now before I changed the battery but now it doesn’t work.

Also about the steering: when I turn it feels as if the servo is glitching. The steering wheel alternates between light steering to slightly harder steering. (This doesn’t bother me very much but it started happening at the same time as the speedometer issue). If I brake while I turn, the steering is fine and constant. What could this be?

I have a Punto mk2 2001 5D.
Edit: It works okay when I first start the car. The longer I drive, the worse it gets. When I leave the car for a couple of hours, it’s okay again

Check the ground wire that connects to battery and the body , they do fail .

I have checked the grounds and cleaned them up. No difference. I opened the cap to the gearbox fluid and saw no fluid inside. Could this be an issue?
