Hey guys,

Need some advice.

Since LPG conversions on diesels are not worth the hassle and rebate, what else can i do to cut down on fuel prices.

At the moment, i last paid £1.30 per litre of shell v power... now you see where i am going.. around £70-£80 to fill a tank or so.

I refuse to use supermarket fuel since i worked on morrisons petrol service desk and was given books etc to study their fuel etc... i have also seen problems with a friends bmw and jaguar after years of use of their fuel... so i stay away, an old petrol / diesel is usually ok but the more modern engines i would suggest to stay away.

Anyhow, as you all know im running a stilo sporting multijet 150hp motor (currently at 200hp ish and its a 1.9d 16v)

I want to save some pennies...
Can i run any other fuel and keep my performance... hence asking about biofuel.

I also have some worries though, i ran biofuel in an old shogun, it ran fine but after a month of running it the fuel pump seals where shot... the engine took lots of cranking to start and then kicked out lots of smoke and splutter like hell and cut out... only way you get it running in a useable state was to fire it up and keep the revs high for 5 to 10mins until it warmed up and the seals expanded and then it was fine, in the end it cost us £500 to have the engine half stripped to get to the pump to replace the seals.

So as you could imagine, i dont want to damage my motor and dont want to loose power etc.

If anyone has experience or any info then please do post.

Thanks in advance guys.

Br,
Dan.

I think you have answered your own question. Don't use homemade biofuel in modern engines. Even the worst supermarket fuel will be better than homemade biofuel. As a compromise I'd suggest standard pump diesel with a decent cetane booster (I use Millers Diesel Ecomax)rather than the Vpower.

Oh bummer... i was hoping there was more hope.

I have recently used a full tank of vpower and a double shot of redex injector cleaner along with a 500ml of cetane booster (by redex)

Since filling the tank... i used half of the fuel and refilled again...

I've been driving since 1960 and have owned one diesel car (2006 Astra) for less than a year.
Never again!!
My 1991 Fiat Tipo is much better and the heating system works, probably because it isn't electronically controlled.
