Hi Newbie here, please help. I have a 2005 1200 Punto which has recently had the clutch replaced. Since being returned I am unable to select 3rd gear, the car was sent back to the garage; they told me it would be a cable fault. I got the car back & was told they had done their best. Still unable to select 3rd gear. Prior to having the clutch replaced I was able to select all gears easily. The garage are now telling me it requires a replacement gearbox???

Please help or advise if possible

hi, and welcome..,:)
5 speed manual..??

my guess is they've either damaged a linkage.. or otherwise abused something.. assuming you had no issues for thousands of miles previously..

OK - test 1,;
does it go in and out of ALL gears with the engine OFF??:confused:

clutch UP and DOWN..??;)

Hi Charlie

Thank you for taking the time to reply, yes its a 5 speed. I can select all gears whilst stationary without the engine running. If I select 3rd gear then start the engine, it is as if its being 'kicked out' & grinding / grating noise appears

I dont know what they have done wrong but I do know that they had to fit a new 'trust bearing sleeve'
