Clutch Slave cylinder connection - Fiat Ducato

A simple question for those in the know . . .

Iím intending to replace the clutch slave cylinder on my 2003 Ducato 2.8 JTD . On previous vehicles Iíve had, the hydraulic pipe has screwed into the slave cylinder. On the fiat though it looks as though the hydraulic pipe just pushes in and is kept in place with a retaining wire. Is this the case and/or is a specialist tool required to remove/refit the pipe? There's a picture in the gallery however I can't post it as I've insufficient postings to include a link.

Many thanks

Re: Clutch Slave cylinder connection - Fiat Ducato

I'm not familiar with the Ducato, but the normal method with circlip retained clutch cylinder hoses is to remove the circlip completely to allow the hose to be withdrawn.

When fitting the new cylinder, push the hose in and refit the circlip, then pull the circlip out to it's first notch. This should allow the hose to be withdrawn just enough to bleed the cylinder via the nipple that's moulded as part of the cylinder. The nipple has a hexagon moulded onto it, but don't try turning it, or it will break off of the plastic cylinder.

In future, you're likely to get a better response to Ducato technical issues if you post in Ducato section of the forum here: https://www.fiatforum.com/ducato/
.

Hi,
I've not change one of the modern type either

there was a fair discussion in the 500 section about this,
one of the threads;

Re: Clutch Slave cylinder connection - Fiat Ducato

Thanks all, the clutch slave cylinder replacement went well. Darvenís description of the procedure is spot on. Once Iís got over the fact that it was just a push fit with a circlip for retention the process of connecting and bleeding the hose was remarkably quick. I canít imagine how it retains an hydraulic seal but it does!

By way of background, I replaced the slave cylinder because the clutch pedal was not always springing back to its initial position and if left would become progressively lower with use until it was pulled back up with the foot. It now performs as it should.
