Torque for front caliper bolts on Doblo

Hi,

I'm in the middle of swapping the front discs, but I can't find the torque for the bolts which hold the caliper to the brackets (M12 x 1.25).

Can anyone help me out on this?

Cheers

Ron

Re: Torque for front caliper bolts on Doblo

Well, after a few phone calls I'm still not sure what this torque setting should be.

My Doblo has the larger diameter discs (284mm diameter), it appears that there are 2 diameters of disc for Doblos of my vintage. The caliper bolts are M12 for the larger disc and M10 for the smaller disc.

I've been given 2 torque values, 57Nm and 105Nm, for my calipers. To me the 105Nm seems the sort of torque that would shear off the bolt. The 57Nm figure came from a reliable source, so that's what I used. It seemed pretty tight and with a dab of loctite on the bolt I'm quite sure it's going to be OK.

Cheers

Ron

Re: Torque for front caliper bolts on Doblo

Tipo derived vehicles with 284mm discs use 105 Nm on a M8 bolt for securing the caliper brackets, so I'd go with the higher torque myself, though ePer/eLearn should give the correct value.

M12 is pretty chunky and can easily take that kind of torque, especially if it's a high tensile bolt.

Definately agree with a good dab of high-temperature thread lock on caliper bolts.

I think the reference to m8 bolt 105 Nm is a typo

Re: Torque for front caliper bolts on Doblo

Think you might be right, does seem a bit small, def 105 Nm for the 'larger' bolt though.

Plenty of bolts on Fiat front suspension that are around M10 have torques of over 100Nm. Wishbones to subframe and steering knuckle to shock come to mind.

I say 'around' as some are 11mm fine thread and other odd sizes, meaning you have to buy from Fiat at 5€ a bolt.

As an extremely rough guide, how tight were the original bolts? 50-ish Nm would have probably needed a good smack from the palm of your hand on a 1/2 inch rachet, 100-odd would more likely need a breaker bar, assuming thread-locked bolts that have not been touched for a good few years and that you are not built like a gorilla.
