Hello.
I have a punto evo 2010. 1.3 turbo diesel 75hp. This is the 199b engine.
Big end noise on start up and light knock for first mile or two then clears and sounds fine. It also smokes but not all the time, can go for a week without smoking then one day it smokes for a few miles whether hot or cold. Thinking about taking sump off and checking end bearings for wear as needs sump anyway. As for smoking could it be injector fault as its intermittent.
If engine needs replacing what differences are there between 199a and 199b, and will the 90hp engine fit.
Also what other models would fit straight in.

All Diesel engines are more noisy when cold, normal behavior.
Don't confuse so called "Diesel knock" with problems or worse..
As for the smoke, during the colder time of the year, white smoke is normal as well, it's just condensation, and it can take a long time to disapear, black or dark grey smoke still present after a few miles driving means trouble, like bad fuelpump..or wrong timing, or glogged up EGR system.

I will carry on with fitting new sump and look at wear on shell bearings as this won't take too long on the ramp.
If the crank is worn I will look into a second hand engine.
I no longer have contacts for grinding and reboring services and I don't fancy a total strip down so I wanted to know if any members knew which year of engine and engine number would suit me. As I see lots of ancillaries are different through the range of engines.
