Hi all, I have a 2007 Bravo and tonight, when trying to join the motorway, I was being boxed in by an idiot driver, so had to try punch a little harder on the accelerator. , he then increased his speed to continue to box me in, whilst at max rev, sixth gear, suddenly my CHECK ENGINE light went on and I seemed to suddenly be limited to rev and speed. I pulled off the motorway, switched off and restarted. The CHECK ENGINE warning was still there, but it seemed the limitation to revs had gone. Any ideas? Is this simply a rev limiter to protect the engine, and now the ECU has logged its use. It drove home fine after that but the light is still lit. Thanks

You need to get the fault code read and take appropriate action.

Might just require a reset, which the ECU may do after a number of successful engine restarts and running time with no other issues.

The worst scenario I can think of is that the cam belt has jumped and the cam shaft phase sensor is detecting a crucial timing error. If this is the case then there is the possibility that if you gun the old girl again an additional timing slip could occur and this time piston to valve contact could occur.

hi,:)

the engine Message / light being on , should mean a fault code is stored;)

Thanks all for excellent replies. I def wasnt running it at 130mph, I just know I shouldn't have let the revs run that long at that tone...lol. Trying to get the ecu read and a friend has one of the error readers, but i cant find the "edo2??" connector. Forgive me for my lack of knowledge.
