Hi there,

I have an intermittent misfiring issue with my x reg punto mk2.

When I turn the key, 5 times out of ten it will misfire. I have recently had new plugs and leads and the car serviced. The car runs nicely when not misfiring.

There is a strange gurgling/sucking liquid noise audible when I start up. It usually clears quickly when firing cleanly but when misfiring it persists.

When car is misfiring if I turn the lights on full the car will stall occasionally.

I have once been able to clear the misfire by holding the throttle down for 1 minute then it suddenly cleared and ran smoothly.

I realise its a long shot but does anyone have any ideas or experience with this type of issue?

Many thanks,

Hi, and welcome, :)
do you ever get the engine warning light on..? if so there will be a stored fault code, ;)
normal things to cause occasional misfires are;
1, Spark plugs / HT Leads

2, Coil pack (s)

Idle control valve can upset the running..,
but your car sounds like it's in need of a proper going through..,
the gurgling is air in the coolant going through the heater.. often due to coolant level being run too low..,

or it could be the fuel pump ;) or fuel pressure regulator.

Hi Charlie,

Many thanks for your help :)

Yes a while back the coolant sytem got really clogged up and we had to drain it. No warning lights have come on recently.

I will have a look see at those components :)

All the best,
Martin
