Fiat Bravo 2009 air condition problem (smell from outside)

It seems that whatever air-circulation setting I have, I always get smell from the motor or outside road which is filled with other car exhaust fumes. I think the flap or flaps or other mechanism that governs the air intake selection is defected. Is this is something known in this car, any way for an easy fix?

Hi. There are a few basic air inlets.
not to mention the dozens of small holes in the bulkhead for cables.etc
