Multi Air Solenoid Unit

Dear Fiat Forum,

I need to buy 2 MA solenoid units for a research project and I don't know where to get them from. Can anyone help?

We are an engine design company - If you Google JBS Racing we will be the top hit.

Those of you with a technical understanding of things can probably work out what we need the MA units for.

I would be very interested to hear from anyone who knows how to drive the MA units. I.e. what voltage they use, what current they draw and contorl protocol they use. We will be able to reverse engineer this but any heads up would be great.

Best regards

Ben

Hi Ben, and welcome,
do they need to be fully functioning..?,

as they are pricey..
chances are one of the FIAT/alfa indys may have a link to both new+used units

I'm not sure if the Twinair uses a significantly different unit to the 4 pot Multiairs

Re: Multi Air Solenoid Unit

Hi Charlie,

Our M1 1,000cc single cylinder engine was designed back in 2004 with some updates in 2011. It has cams in the block and hydraulic oil ways to the head.

Imagine a combination between a fiat MA engine and a single cylinder from a harley push rod engine, except that the push rods are hydraulic fluid.

The engine runs without varial valve timing just using the hydraulic push rod principal. This has been common in marine diesels for 50 years.

It was always the intention that it could use solenoid bleed off like the fiat to acheive variable value timing.

I need two things - firstly two solenoid units to act as space models. They don't have to be functioning just represenattive so we intergrate with the hardware and see what we nee to machine etc.

Secondly I will need functioning units.

I don't know if twinair or multiair units would be best or what the differance is. I would very much welcome some advice. We are at the start of the process. We will be able to reverse engineer all this info but asking those in the know is always the best start.

Thanks for your help so far.

Best regards

Ben

Re: Multi Air Solenoid Unit

Engine is 1,000cc single cyclinder, applications are Sidecarcross andvarious niche vehicles.

Bore is 123mm, stroke is 84mm. 4-vlave head. 45mm inlets and 42mm exhausts.

Power is about 100bhp. Weight including gearbox and clutch is 37kg.

4-speed gearbox is electromechanically actuated, I.e. these is no selectorcam drum.

Any technical questions just ask.

I am pitching it for some government funding shortly and wish to exhibit thevariable valve timing version along side the hybrid version with has a 30hpelectric motor in series with the 100bhp IC engine.

I'm of an age to remember the Folan - Huskys so know where you are with the sport side

Green Funding is definitely the future though,

as I said a decent Italian vehicle specialist could well be your best option,
as a though - crashed 500 TA's have their complete engines units on Ebay for @500
