Hi all
The wife has just come home from work and the odo mileage is
flashing we have looked in the service book but it does not mention any thing about it
Does anyone now what it means and how to cure the problem

Hi normally it means that there is an issue with the CAN databus system. If you've not changed anything on the car it could be a bad connection. A fault code read will tell you what is wrong. A "Proxi-Alignment" will normally be required to sort this out. Both these are done by a Fiat Dealer or plugging a computer with a lead and software called Multiecuscan.

It would be useful to know the model and engine of your car.

PS if i disconnect the battery will this set it back to factory settings

Hi. Canbus is a modern take on vehicle wiring..reliant on several small ecu/computers talking to esch other..

Uncoupling battery is worth a try..but geberally you want to eset the system with software like
MULTIECUSCAN

We had the 500 in today and the garage has checked for faults the blue and me was one
brake fluid level no2
no3 was proxy alignment what ever that is
They cleared the codes and all seams to be ok now fingers crossed
£45 not to bad

Multiecuscan (www,multiecuscan.net) and a ELM327 lead (UK-Diagnostics ebay item 271275445368) will do the job and costs about the same as the garage charged the OP.
If you do your own maintenance it will pay for itself very quickly.

No, that package is not suitable. It is not Fiat specific, so won't do a Proxi Alignment. It's also expensive for what you are getting. All you need in computer terms is an old Windows XP laptop. I got my Sony on freecycle for free
There is a similar model on ebay in great condition for £60 (item No. 252174956140 but collection only) in addition you need an elm 327 (ebay item 271275445368) at £20 and Multiecuscan at £30.

If you are near Cambridge I can do it for you.
