hi all i have a 1.2 8v punto on an x/2000 plate and it has the strangest problem

it idles perfectly the moment you try and give it some throttle it pops and bangs then clears itself once over 2000 rpm between idle and this rev range its horrendous

car is a genuine 57k car

its had

new coil packs
leads
plugs
throttle body
lambda sensor
crankshaft sensor
fuel pump removed and cleaned
timinf has all been checked and spot on
compression tested and is between 175/200 psi across all 4

im slowly losing the will to live with it as no one seems to know whats wrong

any help pointers would be hugely appreciated thanks steve

Hi Steve, and welcome,
the 8V motors are pretty simple, and nothing too complex in the Punto 2/B
you've changed all the obvious stuff,
I would be leaning towards a re-learn to get all the sensors communicating properly..,
pretty sure I've seen similar posts on here before,
Ziggy122 may well have more info,

A relearn wont make the sensors talk properly
They already are

The phlonic wheel relearn is when the car forgets it current advance/retard of ignition and injection and runs purely on base program

The process of letting it warm up and revving it allows the ecu to start making a new set of settings

My thought is this
Take the pre lambda sensor out of the cat it aint seized in

Then run the car
Does it rev freely now?

As I sorta suspect a possible detached cat / blocked cat
Idle to 2k dony enough pressure to get out
But higher does

Its an easy test to do

Ziggy

Thanks for the replys in shall now look into the cat probably the place I should of started if this cures the problem there will be free haribos in the post lol

well a quick update on this never ending saga

pulled lamdba sensor out the cat problem is still there took it to a local mot station and it passed emmision test too

replaced spark plugs to be sure they were goo still same problem

bought a new coil pack and removed one at a time made no difference

the only thing i can put it down to is a faulty ecu unless anyone can shed some light on another area i should be looking at ?

also now has developed a start and dies after 3 secound problem but restart and it runs and idles :bang::bang::bang::bang::bang::bang::bang::bang::mad:(n)

great news its fixed it was the fuel pump lacking a constant pressure and couldnt keep up last thing i would of expected on a 57k car
