What diagnostics do Fiats use?

I shall soon be buying a Doblo van (2005/54 plate) and was wondering what kind of diagnostics it uses please?

I drive a toy thing (300+bhp Skoda Fabia diesel) so I am very familiar with (and own) VCDS which is incredibly useful. So is there anything comparable windows based / using a USB cable, for the Fiat range?

I am keen to do my own code reading etc, so would love to know what is out there for users.

Re: What diagnostics do Fiats use?

As in this? It's less than half the price of VCDS which is pretty cool.

OK, I tried posting the link to gendan @ 115 but I can't due to low post numbers I have over 40,000 posts on Briskoda, does that count?

Re: What diagnostics do Fiats use?

Hmmm, the cables look a lot like the one I use for flashing the ECU on my Skoda. I wonder if I can get hold of the software it will work with my existing cable Hmmm

If it helps you, a Galletto 1260 cable used by the VW chip tuners is the same thing as the kkl cable you need for the fiat

You can download a free version of multiecuscan to know if you are reading data from your existing cable.

Cool - Yes, it is a galletto (type of) cable I have for remapping my Skoda. Where can I get this free version from to see if I can read the Doblo?

Re: What diagnostics do Fiats use?

Type multiecuscan into google. All the versions of the software enable the free version to operate. Some cars only work with the registered version but if it tells you that then it has already read your ecu to know that.

www.multiecuscan.net

I don't know what interfaces the Galletto cable supports. Being VAG it will at least be KL. There is a supported vehicle list on Muliecuscans site. Looks like KL will do most stuff, but you will need CAN for the instrument cluster and proxialignment.
Go straight to Multiecuscan for the software if you don't need a lead.
They hae great suppoort. As an option there is AlfaOBD which also has a free trial.

Re: What diagnostics do Fiats use?

Quick bump as now I am keen to setup the multiecuscan but not sure if the cables I have will work. Photo below of two of them. I also have the latest HEX-CAN cable for my VCDS but don't think that would work.

Re: What diagnostics do Fiats use?

Hi,
No photos
If it is the older vag-com or VCDS lite USB cable it should work OK. If it a laer cable that also acts as a licence key for VCDS then it may not. No harm in trying it with the unregistered MES to see if it connects. If looking at a new interface, get an ELM-327 type so you can do proxi alignment. Ebay item 271275445368 is typical (I've used this seller). The "modification" is making sure there is no 120 ohm resistor across the CAN bus (pins 6 & 14) in the interface.
As an ex S4 Avant owner and early Vag-Com user I'm sure you will be pleasantly surprised by the capabilities, ease of use and low cost of MES.

Re: What diagnostics do Fiats use?

If you look here:

http://www.multiecuscan.net/SupportedVehiclesList.aspx

and locate your exact Doblo model you will be able to see:

1) Which vehicle systems are supported by the FREE version of MES (these are in black font). Anything in Red font will require the paid version of MES

2) The table also gives the required interface unit (KKL, ELM etc.) and also the adapter cables/wiring that may be required

Is the photo of my 2 cables not showing above?

One is basically an MPPS V13 chip tuning cable, and the other is an EOBD programmer cable.

EDIT: Also just found a VAG K-CAN COMMANDER cable.

Re: What diagnostics do Fiats use?

Hi,
I can see the photo now. My work internet may have blocked them (normally get a message though). I don't think either of those will work, they are too sophisticated. MES is looking for a simple USB/RS232/level-shifter interface. As I said before, no harm in trying them though. The VAG K-CAN COMMANDER cable almost certainly won't work. To be honest at about 15 for a ELM-327 lead on ebay it's hardly worth bothering with the KL leads as they won't do CAN. You need CAN for proxi alignment, the instrument cluster and body computer. The free version of MES will do all the engine stuff, including service reset, and ABS (need adaptor 1) on the your van and let you look at basic CAN info. Due to your vans age (between all KL and all CAN) you will need a KL lead (and adaptor 2) to look at the air-bags though.

HTH,
Robert G8RPI.
