I shall soon be buying a Doblo van (2005/54 plate) and was wondering what kind of diagnostics it uses please?

I drive a toy thing (300+bhp Skoda Fabia diesel) so I am very familiar with (and own) VCDS which is incredibly useful. So is there anything comparable windows based / using a USB cable, for the Fiat range?

I am keen to do my own code reading etc, so would love to know what is out there for users.

MultiECUScan ;)

As in this? :) It's less than half the price of VCDS which is pretty cool.

OK, I tried posting the link to gendan @ £115 but I can't due to low post numbers :D I have over 40,000 posts on Briskoda, does that count?

Hmmm, the cables look a lot like the one I use for flashing the ECU on my Skoda. I wonder if I can get hold of the software it will work with my existing cable Hmmm

If it helps you, a Galletto 1260 cable used by the VW chip tuners is the same thing as the kkl cable you need for the fiat

You can download a free version of multiecuscan to know if you are reading data from your existing cable.

Cool - Yes, it is a galletto (type of) cable I have for remapping my Skoda. Where can I get this free version from to see if I can read the Doblo? (y)

I don't know what interfaces the Galletto cable supports. Being VAG it will at least be KL. There is a supported vehicle list on Muliecuscans site. Looks like KL will do most stuff, but you will need CAN for the instrument cluster and proxialignment.
Go straight to Multiecuscan for the software if you don't need a lead.
They hae great suppoort. As an option there is AlfaOBD which also has a free trial.

Quick bump as now I am keen to setup the multiecuscan but not sure if the cables I have will work. Photo below of two of them. I also have the latest HEX-CAN cable for my VCDS but don't think that would work.

Hi,

If it is the older vag-com or VCDS lite USB cable it should work OK. If it a laer cable that also acts as a licence key for VCDS then it may not. No harm in trying it with the unregistered MES to see if it connects. If looking at a new interface, get an ELM-327 type so you can do proxi alignment. Ebay item 271275445368 is typical (I've used this seller). The "modification" is making sure there is no 120 ohm resistor across the CAN bus (pins 6 & 14) in the interface.
As an ex S4 Avant owner and early Vag-Com user I'm sure you will be pleasantly surprised by the capabilities, ease of use and low cost of MES.

If you look here:

http://www.multiecuscan.net/SupportedVehiclesList.aspx

and locate your exact Doblo model you will be able to see:

1) Which vehicle systems are supported by the FREE version of MES (these are in black font). Anything in Red font will require the paid version of MES

2) The table also gives the required interface unit (KKL, ELM etc.) and also the adapter cables/wiring that may be required

I believe this to be my van - Its on a 54 plate so one of the earlier ones.

Is the photo of my 2 cables not showing above?

One is basically an MPPS V13 chip tuning cable, and the other is an EOBD programmer cable.

EDIT: Also just found a VAG K-CAN COMMANDER cable. :)

Hi,
I can see the photo now. My work internet may have blocked them (normally get a message though). I don't think either of those will work, they are too sophisticated. MES is looking for a simple USB/RS232/level-shifter interface. As I said before, no harm in trying them though. The VAG K-CAN COMMANDER cable almost certainly won't work. To be honest at about £15 for a ELM-327 lead on ebay it's hardly worth bothering with the KL leads as they won't do CAN. You need CAN for proxi alignment, the instrument cluster and body computer. The free version of MES will do all the engine stuff, including service reset, and ABS (need adaptor 1) on the your van and let you look at basic CAN info. Due to your vans age (between all KL and all CAN) you will need a KL lead (and adaptor 2) to look at the air-bags though.

Thanks. I think I will just bite the bullet and go with the ebay link. (y)

In my cars I use multiecuscan only with ELM327 interface and the three adapters.
But for your car, OBDKey 1.40 with its adapters seems to be the most complete interface.
Multiecuscan is a great software really...sometimes I did MORE with it than some mechanics with their professional diagnosis...

OBDKey is a good multi-protocol interface, but is a little more expensive than a pair of ELM-327 and KL interfaces. The OP will still need the adaptor cables for his Doblo. With the ODBkey you are getting a manufacturers product rather than a Chinese no-name unit which may be important to some.

I repeat: I use only ELM327 with Croma, 500, Alfa 159 and also my aunt's Punto mk3.
I said what I said because, if you go on multiecuscan site - supported vehicles, you can see that for Doblò type 223:
Autoliv MY99 Airbag (1F-2P) |INFO|DTC|PRM|ACT| KL 3OBDKey 3 A2
Autoliv MY99 Airbag (2F-2P-2L-I) |INFO|DTC|PRM|ACT| KL 3OBDKey 3 A2
Autoliv MY99 Airbag (2F-2P-I) |INFO|DTC|PRM|ACT| KL 3OBDKey 3 A2

So no ELM for this functions...
For that Car, ODBkey is the unique interface that does all.

Only for that reason....

I'm a supporter of ELM and also he can do almost all diagnostic tasks with that (and adapters) on the Doblò....

Hi Albyhf,

I agree with your comments about OBDkey, I was just pointing out that it may be cheaper, but less convienet to buy both an ELM-327 and a KL interface. The OP's Doblo is a transition vehicle with some older modules that use a Fiat specic variant of KL (that the ELM chip can't do) like the airbag as you say, and some CAN only modules, like the instruments and body computer that a KL interface can't do. OBDkey is around 80 Euros, a pair of ELM-327 AND KL leads are around half that.
There is also the Multiecuscan MULTIPLEXED option that is 220 Euro. This is a single interface that needs no adaptors (other than 3 pin for old cars).

Regards,
Robert G8RPI.
