Can anybody help me? I have a seicento and the front tyres keep wearing out very quick but not across the whole width of the tyre but only on the outside edges. is it a problem with the alignment of the wheels or somting like that?

Highly likely to be a problem with the alignment/steering geometry. It needs to be checked by somebody competent in using the correct equipment.

Other possibility is badly/improperly repaired accident damage, has it been in a shunt do you know?

Thankyou for the quick reply, I don't think it's had a shunt, but have no idea how much it should cost to get it fixed. if i take it the garage what kind of "ball park" figure should it cost? to check the alignment and to adjust it to fix the problem?

Some say don't touch Kwick Fit with a barge pole but they will check it for free, the quality of service seems to depend on the local staff in the local branch.

ATS do free checks too.

I don't know if they charge for carrying out any actual adjustments though, but its worth it to save running your tyres off sooner than normal.

If they do charge for adjustments ball park should be no more than £20 or £30 I would say.

ed. - I should add that if they cannot adjust it to the correct settings it might indicate something bent or damaged which of course would add to the cost.

Nice1, put 2 part worn tyres on for now, will be taking your advice and taking it the garage next week for testing.

20 -30 is about right.

Your tyre place probably can do it. Ideally you want somewhere that will "centralise the rack" before twiddling with the track rod ends.
