Gear Oil (OEM spec as per manual)

What's going on.....

well decided to do a gear oil change on the Evo anyway ordered 2 fresh bottles from shop4parts when it came noticed its a different colour to the slightly older part bottle i have on the garage shelf

the newer stuff is the normal amber colour yet the older stuff is red..

Both comply with FIAT9.55550 same weight and GL specs but why the different colours..

Seeing this makes me wonder if when you get "original oil" of any sort be it engine, brake fluid, coolant that they haven't just bottled what ever brand / type they can get cheap at the time and badged it up and charged a premium for the nice blue bottles

I understood that Matryx is the newer one. Perhaps S4P have old stock. I been buying Tutela ZC 75 Synth from the local Fiat dealer for years, but when I went for some a few months ago, he said it was now called Tutela Matryx. Still the same spec. as ZC 75 though.

I was using ZC 75 (amber colour) about 10 years ago in my old Croma Turbo. When they said it had changed to Matryx (red colour), I got it home and seeing the red colour thought it was auto transmission oil, but it smelt of normal g/box oil.

Hey Monty

Glad you posted this, as i want to do it soon and because i am new, the colour change would have worried me. But your theory of putting lesser qulaity into high price bottles is something i do believe goes on, but unless we have access to a lab we will never know. I know you posted this awhile ago, but how did your car seem to run after the change? Did you notice any probs?
