I was just on my way home from work (grande punto) when i noticed a light appear on my dashboard, its like a battery with + and - on it, and everytime i stop the car the powersteering doesnt work making it very hard to turn, also when i restart the car it makes a weird noise just as the engine turns on

Sounds like your alternator has had it and needs replacing. I wouldn't use the car until sorted, you're not doing your battery any good, likely to leave yourself stranded and should your alternator seize (which might be the cause of the noise) it'll take your belt out and possibly other things with it.

Oh **** i hope not :/, ive got it in for a service monday do they check the battery level and check alternator? ill take it down the garage tomorrow to see what they say though, thanks anyway

Sadly, having a service will not show if the alternator is about to fail, only if it is weak at the time. So service and failure are just coincidental.

Ive been down the garage for a drop test, turns out the alternator is knackered, having a new one monday thank god
