Is this worth the money.

I am thinking seriously of buying it, this is due to the "Check Engine" light just coming on on my 2005 Croma, the thing is there is NO loss of power, no odd sounds, no trouble starting or stopping etc etc, i think it may be a Fiat quirk and would like to check what caused it to come to life (the light) the only thing i can think off is we had the OIL and filter changed about 6,000 miles ago and the garage said they had tried to connect to the car with a mechanics lappy but it would not talk (no other details, however since then the Car has traveled through 7 countries to Croatia and back with no problems, seems a bit long if it`s related to that, and if his did not talk will this.

For the amount of dosh they are asking i need to be sure .. oh looking at that because it appears to be easier for the likes of me with limited movement..lol, one adapter (it seems) does all.

Any feedback gratefully received.

The software is very much worth the money, however the cables etc can be purchased cheaper I believe.

Jon.

Thanks Jon, yeah i think they can, but most seem to need a lot of different connectors, and i have serious problems with my dexterity, so if the unit does all (IF) then it would be worth the extra cost as i would only need to plug it in once rather than multiple times for different modules.

MultiECUScan is good!

I use it on my Croma 2005 & others cars.

Just a word of advice. Unless you plan to use it on a number of cars in a workshop environment then the fully multiplexed and epxensice package using the CANtieCAR interface is very expensive for normal DIY diagnostic work.

For DIY and even small independent garage then the ELM interface and adaptor cable set is far cheaper and does the same functions although a little more clumsily.

Be sure to check this page http://www.multiecuscan.net/SupportedVehiclesList.aspx to see what the free version and licensed versaion will cover.

On the Croma the free version will do most of the engine ECU functions. Only notable exception as far as I recall is the "oil change reset".

Regarding hardware purchase then I would strongly recommend getting the hardware from one of the listed official distributors. For the UK the Gendan.co.uk would be my prefered choice. You can get kit cheaper elsewhere but the Chinese clone ELM devices are notorious for having connection issues without being modified.

While you are looking on the gendan/other sites also take a look at their more generic hand held code readers and other diagnostic kit. There is no doubt that you will have to pay well in excess of £500 to match the functionality of MultiECUScan with kit like Ma:LOL:IAS etc. but form many a simple code reader or better device will meet their basic needs before they refer their car to a garage for further work.

If you plan on servicing and maintaining your Croma/ other car then go for MultiECUScan and the KKL & ELM & Cable package from Gendan.

Last but one point. FiatECUScan V1.6 was the last fully functional version of FiatECUScan before CAN interfaces were supported. This free version will also do the oil change reset on the Croma.

Last point. The MultiECUScan license is valid for ONE year! This entitles you to support and free updates & fixes for a year. Once the year is up then the software will still fully function with no restrictions etc. On a car like the Croma just about all the cars systems are already fully supported so unless you plan on changing your car for another car with less supported systems then once the year license has expired then it is no problem. If/when you do change cars, especially to one that has only recently been supported then you just renew your license.

All depends on when you originally purchased a license.

Most I think all those that had a valid FiatECUScan license BEFORE MultiECUScan was released have a "lifetime" license.

When MultiECUScan was released the license became a one year license. Existing FiatECUScan (lifetime) licenses are still honoured. Basically those of us that invested in Yani's software in the early days and help it to develop and mature are supported for life. Newcomers have new annual license agreements.
