Hi

We have a 59 plate 500 Lounge 1.2 Dualogic which has only done 7K miles and the "Check transmission" error keeps tripping.

I have plugged MultiECUScan into the car and it is reporting problems with the brake pedal switch (P0571/P0504). I have obtained a replacement switch and cleared the error and the light goes out but it is then triggered again after a random period.

The gearbox changes up fine but as soon as the light comes on, you cannot use 4th or 5th gear any more.

This has happened in the past (normally after we have been on holiday for a week or so and the car hasn't been driven) but this time, it has not cleared after a couple of days.

I have also replaced the main battery recently.

Any ideas please ?

Thanks

Gavin

Thanks for the reply - the brake lights seem to be working as normal.

I swapped the new switch with the original last night and this didn't change the situation so suggests the switch itself is not at fault ?

Does the new switch need adjustment ?

Thanks

Gavin

No, unfortunately not - is it possibly a faulty earth somewhere ?

It could possibly, I'm trying to think, I'm sure someone on here had similar, where the fault kept returning even though the switch was changed a few times, and ended up being something different, but of the life of me I can't remember. :bang:

Just another easy to try thing, might be worth disconnecting the battery if an hour or so to rest everything, just incase it's a blip.

Unfortunately yes I have tried that a few times - including leaving the battery disconnected for over 24 hours..

Just to let you know my experience with the Dualogic transmission... Maybe it helps somebody... :)

I have a Grande Punto 2010, only 25000 km on it. Suddenly the Check transmission appeared... The 4th and 5th Gear were "unavailable"... The "Press brake pedal" message also appeared, so I could only start it in Neutral...

I had a Grande Punto before, a 2008, but that had been in an accident so I thought that it was the reason for the Dualogic to appear weird, with random error messages... I like the car so I decided to give it another try....

Anyway now my 2010... with only 25000 km gives up on me.... I was going to call Berlusconi and say that Fix It Again Tony is so true...

Also, living in the Carribean, with 4 hour drive to nearest Fiat dealer....

Anyway now to the positive news!!! :)

I also noticed that my A/C stopped working... the fuse looked good (fuse box to the left of driver seat)..but we changed it and voila the A/C worked AND AND AND..... no more Check transmission message... Everything worked perfectly normal again!!!

So happy... :) still kind of confused...and yeah my mechanic did not understand it either... :)

Just an update - I managed to plug my car into an ECU Scanner and the fault was definitely the brake switch. Replaced it, cleared code and it came back again a few hours later. So I got some self-amalgamating rubber tape and wrapped up all the wiring to the rear lights as apparently a bad earth can cause this. I also added an additional earth strap from the battery to the car body. Finally, I added an additional earthing point in the boot for the wiring to the left-hand rear light cluster (black wire to earth).

So far, it is now OK (all 5 forward gears again) but issues normally only surface when the car hasn't been driven for a week or so - and we are going on holiday in a few weeks time...

Thanks

Gavin
