2002 model 2.0JTD Ducato. Broken cambelt damage repaired last year, since then gradual loss of power. Diagnostic reading E1600 fault, speedo reading on computer 215km/h when only slow speeds. Being a motorhome laid up for winter, checked turbo waste gate located rear engine from below, free enough, replaced airflow sensor, no difference. Next measure is to replace speedo sensor, any one else experienced similar problems? Like to hear from you. More info, 2nd gear 20mph at top of steel hills (not normal), max speed 70mph foot to floor downhill wind behind. Used to do 85+. appreciate feedback, cheers Mike.

Is it possible that the cambelt tension has backed off? or the crank/camshaft wasn't tightened properly and has slipped, so causing the valve timing to alter?

As it's been a gradual loss, it sounds like something coming slack. It could be a turbo boost hose not done up tight and losing you boost pressure as it slowly falls off. There is quite a pressure in the boost system. Other things that could have been disturbed are the fuel lines - you may be getting air bubbles leaking into the inlet side through a slack hose connection. More unlikely is the air filter is clogged solid. Another favourite cause of power loss is the catalytic convertor blocked up. Put your gloved hand over the end of exhaust pipe with the engine running and make sure there's a nice quick pressure build up which blasts out when you release your hand. Don't hold you hand on for long or you might damage something with all that exhaust pressure.
I used to co-own a garage and I've seen all the above faults cause the symptoms you describe. Hope that helps a bit.

Just remembering that yours is an HDi engine, so the air in fuel line is not going to be a cause - it would be only apllicable for an engine with a lift pump after the fuel tank.

Done all of above and second garage carried out another diagnostic, it only shows faulty temp sensor but temp guage working normal, would this be relevant to the problem? even tried a second new air mass sensor, first one Hella second original Siemens / Fiat. Now we are scratching heads! It is like there is no turbo there, even when rev the engine at a standstill slow on the pick up. EGR seems to be still working, when pull off and reconnect small vac hose you can hear the change in engine tone, I'll blank it off next anyway see what happens. Workmate suggested slip the exhaust at manifold and run, although when cover end of exhaust with hand there is quick pressure build and release. Maybe a hose has collapsed on the inside but not visible from outside, is that a possibility? Get to the root of it yet, not giving up, or maybe should and put in another engine but a 2.8 to handle the steep hills in Shetland! Keep you posted.

It's possible that the faulty temp sensor could have something to do with it, as it's directly connected to the ECU and it's reading used to alter fuel injection. If the ECU sees too high a coolant temp, it limits the engine power until the temp drops - a bit like limp mode. If the ECU sees a low temp (cold engine), it changes the injection timing to compensate for the different burn rate in a cold engine. I don't know if your particular ECU has this in it's map, but some ECUs will limit engine speed when the engine is cold to prevent excessive wear of a cold engine. The faulty temp sensor could be telling the ECU that the engine is stone cold or overheating - I don't know which. Best get it changed and at least you've elininated one possible cause!

Did you ever solve the loss of power problem on your 2.0 jtd
