Hello everyone,

Can anyone tell me the make and model of the dynamo on a pre war Topolino please? The one I have has no markings on it at all. It's a 3 brush machine.

Also, what is the output of the dynamo in amps or watts please?

I'm guessing at about 10 amps judging by the size of the armature and commutator???

The dynamo is driven by belt from one end and has a shaft extension on the other end with a cooling fan on it.

I hope someone can help me please.

Peter

Whilst its old school, the output is regulated via the regulator box, usually mounted betwen battery and dynamo in the engine bay. They have 3 coils inside (iirc) and they need to be set with feeler gauges to adjust the output....probably not much help to you without proper figures to work to.. and its been about 25 years since I last played with a dynamo charging system.

Hello chaps,

The early Topolino dynamo is a 3 brush machine so has no mechanical regulator, just a mechanical cut out. Regulation is determined by the position of the 3rd brush in relation to the live brush which feeds the field a certain amount of current. Dynamo output current is pro rata to field current.

I rebuild and convert vintage and classic dynamos for a living dynamoregulatorconversions.com but this particular dynamo only has a part number stamped into it and the single number 6 (it's 12v) along with an arrow showing direction of rotation. My reference books and charts show nothing for the Topolino.

This one's going to be converted to 2 brush with control by solid state regulation so I need some figures ideally. I can run it up under load on my test bench to see at what output it gets too warm but that is a last resort.
