Hi,

Got a Bravo Active on the stock 16x7 steelies. Just bought a set of wheels from Shop4parts which are OEM Fiat accessories, in 17x7 fitment.

Question; the tyres I have on at the moment on the steels are 205/55 16, but the standard tyres on the 17's is 225/45 17. I'm slightly confused as to why the tyre is in fact wider on the 17" wheel, when both the 16" and 17" wheels are both the same width. Will a 205/45 17 tyre stretch?

Cheers

There is a tolerance envelope of rims suitable for tyres. Check-out a rims conversion chart – this indicates “approved rims” against tyre sizes.

I’ve a Bridgestone Pattern Digest [2008] that gives 5½J to 7½Jx16 rims as “approved” for 205/55R16 tyres, & 7J to 8½Jx17 for 225/45R17 tyres.

I’ve no knowledge (or experience) of fitting tyres to rims that are not “approved” or outside spec.

I should have added that 6½J to 7½Jx17 rims are approved for 205/45R17 tyres.

Can i fit 205/55/R16 on my Fiat Bravo mk1 whitout any modifications?

I'm not sure. The width sounds fine, provided the wheel offset is low. But a tyre that deep may not fit without scraping. You may need lower profile tyres. Try on the Bravo/Brava section of this forum, someone will probably have experience.
