hey there,

i wrote my car off on Sat evening, just after filling my car up with petrol.

Is there anything u can buy or make to get petrol out of the car to put it into another vehicle.

thanks
-Kris-

ways i have done it before-

take out the fuel pump and manually take it out with a milk bottle pouring it into bigger containers lol.

take off the fuel pipe under the bonnet and keep turning the igntiion on and off priming the fuel pump and just filling up the container took a while but was worth it :p

okays cheers. i was watching "Road Wars" earlier on skyone and they had this device.

a container with a long tube they put in the tank to suck it up.... can u buy these or make them?

Who? Police or theifs

Your car will have an anti syphone mesh so won't get much out.

What you doing with car now? Keep it and strip for bits and drain tank when you've dropped it. Thats what we done with dad's smashed Panda. (y)

im selling the car...:) if anyone here is interesred :)

Disconnect the positive on the fuel pump - connect a new cable thats long enough to go from the pump directly to the car battery

Insulate the connection and make sure its secure

At the pump, locate feed (pump to engine) cut it leaving you at least a couple of foot - put the cut end into the container

Now at the battery connect the cable you ran to the pump -hey presto...

Do this outside or in a very well ventilated area, and keep the battery away from the container/pump/tank/any fuel. Always 'make the connection' at the battery end - dont what ever you do complete the circuit at the pump, it will create a spark!

If unsure dont do it.

Tom

EDIT: sorry to hear you wrote you car off - hope you're alright.

drill a hole in the bottom of it.

Yes and make sure you use an electric drill, even better an old one that sparks a lot, and if you have trouble seeing where to drill I always use a hurrican lamp, matches, or a candle. (y)

whilst i don't want to put the theory to the test, if you drill into it from below the fuel level, it shouldn't burn, as petrol as a liquid won't ignite easily. :) even safer if the tank is plastic.

In theory, you can chuck a lit cigarette into a bucket of petrol and the cigarette will go harmlessly out... and you really do not need to turn off your mobile phone when using a petrol pump... in theory (F***ed if I would do it!!)

Its not the fuel its the vapour, when mixed with air, becomes the explosive factor, as we all know.

If syphoning is impossible, disconnect the fuel line and slowly drain the tank in a very well ventilated area away from sparks or open flame would be the best method I think.

Did you know in Venezuela a litre of petrol costs at the pump is 0.7 pence, yes 0.7 PENCE a litre..... you heard right! (correct as of 2008 take a look at this website , but it does have its drawbacks being so cheap, for more info... http://www.guardian.co.uk/business/2008/jan/18/oil.venezuela)

Its a real shame if you think about it that these days we have to RISK OUR LIVES draining full petrol tanks to save a bit of money...

F****ng disgrace! THANK YOU W****RS in Parliament and your fuel taxes!
