lower compression?

lower compression?

hi, just wondering how you would lower the compression of an engine so you could do a turbo conversion or somthing? would it just be a case of getting a bigger head gasket? cheers
Tom

Although possible (to a degree), you are much better off fitting forged pistons custom made for the job to bring the compression down to exactly where you want it.

Turbo conversions are not cheap so i wouldn't suggest you skimp on one of the most important areas.

I hope that helps

Tom

you have a 1242 16v punto don't you?

to lower the compression, the cheapest way of doing it would be to speak to these guys and fit a decom plate. they have your engine listed on file.

I don't know any tricks to get the same effect using stock parts (for example if you had an 8v engine, you can fit the 16v pistons to lower the CR.. but you have the 16v.. so that's no help!)

Looks like the decompression plate would be the way to go. I think finding forged pistons sounds like it could be tricky.

Do some people fit two head gaskets? Sounds like a complete bodge though!

Twice the HG failure risk, maybe more if the turbo factor is added.

Depends on how much you want/need to lower the compression.
Head and block would need to be skimmed to be absolutely sure they are both flat and match up with the decomp plate perfectly.

ah rite, how would anyone find out how much to lower the compression by? am i rite in kind of understanding that a decomp plate is like a head gasket?
