how did this engine damage happen then?

car came in on back of AA truck having badly over heated, all the plug leads had melted into the head.

I put timing tools it an set it before stripping and it was spot on. belt and tensioner are new. no damage or marks to pistons or bore.

but 2 valves are bent and some thing has been eating away at the head

daaaavvee learn to use macro mode on your camera for the closeups

faulty fuel injector leading to uber lean mixture, eating the head and thinning the valve stems behind the valves causing them to bend?

for close ups, normally shown as a little flower looking icon. it alters the min focusing distance for the camera - making closeup shots useable and not all blurred!

press the multipad on the back to the left, that should do it on an s5000

Re: how did this engine damage happen then?

more pondering, waterway corroded, hence the hole in head (material fault), water leaked in, hydrolocked, bent valves and then it overheated

Re: how did this engine damage happen then?

where does the hole in the head lead to, is it burnt or corroded away? cant see the damage to valves properly, has something fallen in there. you say belt etc are new, who did them - did they drop something inside?

Re: how did this engine damage happen then?

if theres no piston damge tho, then it's not going to impact damage to bend the valves. if there was fluid in the cylinder, then i suppose in theory it could bend a valve (it couldn't all escape quick enough, and so bent the valve. piston def completely unmarked?

the damage (bending aside) seems to be just on the one valve. is it possible that the whatever has gone on in that cylinder has seized the valves into their guides as it has overheated and then the cam has bent the valves?

Re: how did this engine damage happen then?

thats macro mode, the camera should now be able to focus properly much closer. make sure you half press shutter button and give it chance to focus before fully depressing it
