do you mean you removed the cam variator? the variator is hydraulic, but that wont affect oil capacity (only your high rpm performance).

looks like it does from above figures by 100ml

ive just changed oil an filled up as per the non vvt engine above figures an no smoke yet. last time i filled to max on the stick an it smoked after driving only a few yards down the road

gotta be honist my fiat bravo loves the stuff. I have used about 4L of oil in topups between service of 13000 miles, but i have been told it is good as the fiat bravo 1.4 active is supposed to burn 1L for every 2000 miles. It does make me worry as every time i top her up i think all im going to see is blasts of smoke.

But that is because ive never drove a car that has ever needed top ups.

I have found out like why it does this and apparently it is because fiat engines burn at a higher temp then other cars as it uses slightly more fuel. which results in more oil evaparating.

nah, not a variator - just part of the 'starjet' system that retards the exhaust cam, guessing its emissions related - heats the cat up asap

Remember, the MuliAir unit takes VERY special oil....!!
The Euro 5 engines until 2015 use 5W40, but the Euro 6 engine from 2015 and newer use ONLY 0W30 made by Selenia, no other brand makes oil in this grade at the correct Fiat specs, I'm afraid....!!!!
You WILL ruin the MultiAir unit with the wrong oil....!!!BE CAREFULL !!!!!

Owning a MultiAir II 500X myself I'm very interested and hopeful that the correct oil usage, regular oil and filter changes will result in an engine longevity etc. that is traditionally a Fiat/Lanci/Alfa strong hold.

I've posted elsewhere about the importance of MultiAir II oil specs.

In the UK there are just two makes of oils that currently meet the 0W-30 CS2 specification.

1) Official and type approved Selenia Digitek Pure Energy - Fiat Approval 9.55535-GS1
2) Castrol Edge Professional H C2 0W-30 - No Fiat approval

Avoid C3 and C2/C3 rated oils. Only use C2 (not C3 or C2/C3) especially during the warranty period. After that the choice and outcome is yours to decide :)

At any MultiAir engine, during every oil change, a small filter in the MultiAir unit needs to be changed as well.
It's not mentioned in any workshop manual, and often overlooked, but it's very crucial...!!

Petronas Syntium 7000E 0W30 C2 = Selenia Digitek Pure Energy 0W30 C2. Same company, same oil.
