I replaced the variator on my Stilo 1.8. all the diesel sound went away, The original lasted for 40k kms, will the new one last another 40k, or was it because the original part had fabrication problems, I replaced it with a original replacement part. I also changed the tensor, pulley and timing belt.

If you replace it with an original fiat part then I would think that you could be changin it again in the future hard to say this one really speaking its down to manufacturing tolerances and essembly IMO like anything else in life really ..there are last for life ones now available though and are not fiat as they have been alterered internally with bronze internals to last longer

FIAT did change the part very recently, so the new one might last longer - no guarantees though.
